
When do we use Past Simple?
- When we talk about actions that happen in the past. We often have some markers that help us understand it is the past form. For example, yesterday, a week/month/year ago, last week/month/year.
Examples:
I walked in the park yesterday.
We went there a year ago.
They had a meeting last week.
Possessions – verb HAVE – HAD
- The past form of the verb HAVE is HAD. We use the verb HAD only in positive sentences.
- The negative form is didn’t have, the question form – Did you/we/he….have?
Examples:
She had a lot of toys when she was a child.
We didn’t have much time yesterday.

Yes/no – start your question with the auxiliary verb DID | Wh-questions – start with the question word (who, what, why, where, when, how) |

Key Ideas
- You need to remember REGULAR and IRREGULAR verbs. Regular verbs get ending -d or -ed. As for the irregular verbs, you must learn them. You will see the table later.

dance – danced
stop – stopped
play – played
talk – talked
- Regular verbs can have different pronunciation

[t] after unvoiced sounds – danced, stopped, talked, watched, fixed, worked, finished
[d] after voiced sounds – answered, changed, played, repaired, gathered, watered, enjoyed, cried, received, cleaned, turned
[id] after letters D and T – studied, started, visited, repeated
